10. 2006 ITALIAN FOOTBALL SCANDAL
The 2006 Italian football scandal was a match fixing scandal that was uncovered in May 2006 and it has the involvement of Italy’s top professional leagues Serie A and Serie B. This scandal led to the implication of Juventus, Lazio, AC Milan, Fiorentina and Reggina. Investigations were carried out on the Italian Football Agency GEA World and proof of recorded telephonic conversations to influence the referee appointment were obtained. Consequently Points were deducted from all the teams, Juventus was relegated to Serie B and Reggina was banned from football for 21/2years. This scandal led to the resignation of Franco Carraro from the presidency of Italian Football Federation. Criminal cases were filed against Luciano Moggi and he was sentenced 5 years and 4 months jail.
9. ROSE CONTROVERSY
The Rose scandal is one of the most famous baseball scandal involving the former baseball player Pete Rose. In February 1989, Pete Rose had been accused of betting on baseball and John Dowd was given the charge to investigate in this gambling case. This scandal became public in March 1989. By 9 May, John Down has submitted a report on gambling charges faced by Pete Rose. The report is released to the media on 26 June, 1989. On 24 August Pete Rose was made to sign an agreement banning him from baseball forever. According to the agreement Rose was declared permanently ineligible. Rose was thus replaced by Tommy Helms and he was sentenced to two concurrent five months prison terms and was also fined $50,000. He had publicly admitted to betting on baseball on 5 January, 2004.
8. SLAPSHOT
Operation Slapshot is the code name given to the Ice Hockey scandal against an illegal gambling ring operated by National Hockey League. This scandal was spearheaded by New Jersey state police. The operation was made public on February 6, 2006 and Rick Tocchet who was assistant coach and Janet Jones, James Harney and Wayne Gretzky were taken under investigation. James Harney and Rick Tocchet pleaded guilty to all the conspiracies including gambling and official misconduct.
7. JANE BLALOCK CHEATING CONTROVERSY
Jane Blalock cheating conspiracy is one of the famous golf scandal in which Jane was accused of illegally marking her ball on the green. It took place between 1972 and 1975. LPGA Tour executive board suspended her, so Blalock filed a lawsuit against LPGA Tours in which she asked for the permission from the court to continue playing while the suit was resolved. LPGA Tour players signed a petition arguing about the lawsuit but all the efforts went in vain and Blalock got the permission to continue playing. She kept playing well which made the court think that she is innocent and is suffering from some illness. She won her lawsuit and Blalock and LPGA Tour came to an out of court settlement.
6. IOC BRIBERY CONTROVERSY
IOC Bribery scandal took place in 1998 in which members of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) were accused of selling the rights to host 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City, Utah, United States. IOC was found to have taken bribes from SLOC during the bidding process. Welch and Johnson, head of Salt Lake Organization Committee (SLOC), resigned from their posts for giving bribes to International Olympic Committee (IOC). Fifteen charges of bribery and fraud were filed against them. Investigation also led to the expulsion of 10 members and suspension of 10 members of IOC. This scandal resulted in the adoption of new rules by International Olympic Committee (IOC).
5. PAKISTAN CRICKET SPOT FIXING SCANDAL
Pakistan Cricket spot fixing scandal is the famous cricket scandal which took place in 2010. It accused certain team members of Pakistan’s national cricket team of taking bribes from a bookmaker named Mazhar Majeed to under-perform deliberately and thus influence specific events in a match which are opposed to an actual match result. This scandal occurred in a test match held at Lord’s Cricket Ground, London. This information was used by gamblers to place bets as they had inside information. Majeed was arrested by Scotland Yard for match fixing. As a result International Cricket Council (ICC) banned three players namely Salman Butt, Mohammad Asif and Mohammad Amir for terms of between 5 and 10 years. Charges were filed against them and all four of them were sentenced to prison terms.
4. 2000 SUMMER PARALYMPICS SCANDAL
2000 Summer Paralympics scandal accused ten of the twelve members of the gold medal winning Spanish basketball team to have no disability. 2000 Summer Paralympics were held in Sydney were most of the colleagues had not undergone medical tests which conformed disability. An undercover journalist revealed this and the claims are then investigated by IPC and it was found that around 5 fold medals had been won fraudulently. As a result the teams were officially disqualified and they were ordered to return the gold medals. In November 2009 IPC introduced “Sports Intelligence” tests to confirm claimed disability.
3. 1966 FIFA WORLD CUP CONTROVERSY
The 1966 World Cup FIFA Final between England and West Germany is one of the most famous football scandal. World Cup was held in England from 11 to 30 July. The most celebrated moment in England’s football history was clouded by doping scandal. Three players of the England Football Team were accused of taking drugs for winning. Drug testing was done on all the members before the finals. This World Cup Final also gave us the most controversial goal in the Football World Cup history. Geoff Hurst’s shot on the goal which hit the top cross bar, then bounced down inside the goal and bounced back out of the goal again. It was considered to be a goal but to this day also it is not sure whether the goal was legal or not.
2. BLOODGATE
Bloodgate is a famous rugby scandal which accused Harlequins to fake an injury by using fake blood capsules. This scandal took place on 12 April 2009 in Heineken Cup. Tom Williams who played for Harlequins helped him in this scandal by allowing a blood replacement to be brought at the critical moment. Williams was banned for four months and the head coach Dean Richards was banned for three years from sports as a consequence of this scandal. He later resigned from his post. It was also reported that Harlequins had escaped being thrown out of the Heineken Cup.

1.LANCE ARMSTRONG DOPING CONTROVERSY
Lance Armstrong is considered as one of the best cyclist of all times. He was accused of taking administered drugs in order to improve and enhance his sporting performance. Lance Armstrong consistently denied all these allegations of doping which were couched on him. But on 17 and 18 January, 2013 in an interview with Oprah Winfrey he confessed that he was using performance enhancing drugs and he also told that he had been using these banned drugs throughout much of his cycling career and most recently in 2005. He confessed that he had doped erythropoietin and human growth hormone in his blood. Because of these drugs he won each of the seven Tour De France. USADA had declared that Lance Armstrong will be banned from sports for the rest of his life and he will also be called for sacrifice of any medals, titles, winnings, finishes, points and prizes that he won in events where he has been subsequently disqualified. Armstrong is still fighting to avoid paying back his prize money.
